called forth are visions of whitewashed villages, Byzantine domes
with crosses, monasteries on mountaintops looking like fairytale castles
in the distance. Olive groves grow out of wheat fields on the sides
of mountains, alongside fields of grapevines and wild red poppies.
Bouzouki music, Greek wine, souvlaki, moussaka, baklava all are in
abundance. There are the ladies in black dresses, black stockings,
old men of the sea. Almost always, there is the wonderful bright hot
sun and Mediterranean sky. How could one not be inspired?" -
